Everyday Grace

From Collection to Creation

12.12.2025 - 18.01.2026

Every day, people surround themselves with thousands of objects. Some remain in our possession only briefly, while others accompany us throughout our lives. Some are acquired quickly and cheaply, while others are preceded by careful deliberation. All of them are made - formerly most often by hand, today frequently industrially. Craft bridges the gap between everyday objects and art. Applied art is everyday culture at its highest level.

The exhibition brings the historical everyday objects from the collection of the Open-Air Museum Molfsee into direct dialogue with the work of the artists of the Professional Association of Applied Arts Schleswig-Holstein (BAK). In the creative process, the members of BAK engage intensively with the collection objects, each with very different emphases and approaches, discovering structures, forms, materials, and patterns, developing them further, and translating them into new forms and tactile qualities in their own works and materials.

The result is a very special exhibition. Through the engagement with historical utilitarian objects, a beauty often only visible at second glance - of the old and imperfect, marked by traces of use - comes to light. The juxtaposition with the artistic works in the space creates unexpected resonances between old and new and broadens the view of the creative process and the grace of the everyday.

An exhibition by the Molfsee Open Air Museum and the Schleswig-Holstein Professional Association of Applied Arts (BAK).
