About the museum
The Open-Air Museum Molfsee has shown and documented the daily life and cultural history of rural Schleswig-Holstein as an ethnographic museum for more than 50 years. On the 40 hectares’ grounds, 60 historic buildings from the 16th to the 20th century from various parts of the State as well as the Danish border region are presented within the context of a grown cultural landscape.
Special exhibitions and events - from large markets via theatre performances and concerts to lectures - entices thousands of visitors each year.

The spacious grounds with its magnificent meadows, gardens, fields, ponds and forests make a stay at the Open-Air Museum Molfsee an experience far beyond the actual museum visit. A historic funfair - with two roundabouts, a swing boat and “Hau den Lukas” [test your strength game] – as well as a large playground.
Craftsmen such as bakers, blacksmiths and basket makers demonstrate their skills with their historic handcrafts. The bakehouse, a kiosk as well as a garden café ensure high-quality catering for the visitors. The museum guesthouse Drahtenhof is also located directly outside the actual grounds.
